Michael Oren is the foremost historian, author, and scholar on the Middle East, and is currently a visiting professor at Georgetown University and a fellow at the Shalem Center in Jerusalem. His talk at Wash U, titled “Israel in the Face of Existential Threats,” will cover issues including Iran, terrorism, and the demographic threat.
Dr. Oren has testified before Congress on Middle Eastern affairs, briefed the White House, and served as a visiting professor at Harvard and Yale. Through his extensive publications in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The New Republic, his interviews on CNN, Fox, The Charlie Rose Show, and The Daily Show, his role as the CBS Middle East expert, and his authorship of two New York Times bestsellers, he has demonstrated a rare ability to thoughtfully and compellingly communicate the history of the Middle East.
We are very excited about bringing Dr. Oren to speak at Wash U, and believe that his expertise will be of great interest to our community.

US Public Service Academy Co-founder Chris Myers Asch, Ph.D.
Presentation in Rebstock 215
8-9 pm on Tuesday, March 31, 2009.
Reception following in McMillan Café.
The US Public Service Academy is a proposed four year, publicly funded college with a five year public service requirement. Two Teach for America alumni, Asch and Shawn Raymond, have spearheaded a grassroots movement in support of the idea; college students across the country actively work on behalf of the Academy as members of its youth council. The movement has earned bipartisan support in Congress. In the 110th Congress, total co-sponsorship exceeded 140 Representative and Senators. The legislation creating the Academy will be re-introduced within the next month.
For those who will be on the Wash U campus tonight after Mr. Wash U, Roy Zimmerman will be performing at 10 PM in the Gargoyle. Zimmerman performs “funny songs about ignorance, war, and greed” and is sure to be absolutely hilarious!
This event is free and is being brought to you by the College Dems and Pride Alliance. For more details, check out the facebook event
